Today is the day! — Nitrux 7.0.0 is available to download
We are pleased to announce the launch of Nitrux 7.0.0. This new version combines the latest software updates, bug fixes, performance improvements, and ready-to-use hardware support.
- ⚠️ Important: Despite the efforts and improvements in this and previous releases, we’re not claiming to be security or forensic experts or that the distribution is “impenetrable” or “unhackable,” so there is no misunderstanding. Suggestions for improving this area are welcome on our organization’s GitHub (open a new discussion).
If you use the previous version (6.1.0), once the OTA update is available, use the Nitrux Update Tool System.
- For a detailed tutorial on the update process, see Resources → Tutorials → System.
- ⚠️ Important: Due to major changes in this release, Documentation updates will roll out over the next few days. If you need help, please visit the supported help channels.
Compartmentalized Architecture
Audentes fortuna iuvat—fortune favors the bold. Nitrux 7.0.0 embodies that principle through a visual and architectural overhaul built around one conviction: cohesion does not require a monolith.
The Workspace Environment is Nitrux’s answer to a problem modern desktops have normalized. A desktop should provide one coherent workspace without forcing every function into a single shell, session, or process hierarchy. The Workspace Environment applies the discipline of specialized systems: each component owns a responsibility, a lifecycle, and a defined relationship with the rest.
This is Lifecycle Decoupling. The shell components and session utilities run as an independent, rootless user-session hierarchy governed by nwsm, Nitrux’s OpenRC-based session lifecycle manager. Valenz, Marina, Workspace Settings, Desklock, QMLogout, QMLGreet, NudgeOSD, and the applications built with MauiKit are not unrelated utilities assembled by convention. They are deliberate components of a first-party environment that shares a common visual and architectural language.
MauiKit extends this discipline to presentation. A consistent interface is not a decorative layer placed over unrelated software; it is a contract. Applications share behavior, navigation, and visual identity while remaining separate programs. Customization exists within that system without dissolving it.
The same principle governs software management. Nitrux does not treat the root filesystem as a universal destination for every tool a user might want. AppBox and Flatpak provide user-space applications. Containers provide development environments and foreign toolchains. Software requiring genuine host integration is handled as a release-root addition, where it can be tested as part of the platform.
AppFinder makes this model visible. It does not pretend that every kind of software belongs in the same place. It gives each category a clear boundary and answers a simple question: where does this software belong?
Simplicity is not about having fewer components; it is about having fewer overlapping ways to solve the same problem.
Nitrux does not promise to support every habit inherited from a general-purpose distribution. It promises something more deliberate: a system with defined boundaries, specialized components, and a first-party experience whose coherence comes from architecture, not compromise.
We thank our friends at Packagecloud for providing Nitrux Latinoamericana with the vital infrastructure needed to build our distribution.
Lightning-fast, secure, automated package management.

system: Shared control-center/system helper APIs for desktop shells and other MauiKit apps.audio: PipeWire/WirePlumber session integration and volume feedback.network: NetworkManager integration for connection management and status.notifications: Freedesktop notifications integration.power: Power management, battery, and brightness integration.
- Nitrux KStyle, a Qt6/KF6 widget style based on Breeze, customized for Nitrux to improve desktop integration for non-MauiKit Qt apps.
- 🔰 Information: The new Nitrux KStyle is a different codebase from the previous KStyle we used for NX Desktop, which was based on Lightly.
- New default wallpaper: Blossom. Blossom is an ethereal visual composition that opens with a crisp, cool splash of crystalline cyan and airy sky blue.

Blossom.
- Toma: A screenshot and screen-recording utility for Nitrux. A rewrite of our Grimshot script, implemented in C++, and now also supports screen recording.

Desklock.
- Desklock is a native QML session locker for Wayland environments.
- Features:
- Secure lifecycle with one lock surface for every connected output.

It starts the supplied Wayland session command, waits for a verified Wayland socket, and activates the OpenRC user desktop runlevel. OpenRC still supervises long-running user services. nwsm binds those services to the authenticated graphical session, publishes the compositor environment, and refreshes it when the session creates a replacement Wayland socket. The session supervisor stays active across compositor replacements and restarts the supplied Wayland session command when it exits, or its compositor becomes unavailable.
